Some will say that denominations are unnecessary and actually hinder the commission of Christ to the universal Church. I submit that denominations are not perfect in any way, however, their existence is more important to the complete fulfillment of the commission of Christ.
"No person in their right mind would run back to an old master. In the 1800's, masters brutally beat and dehumanized their slaves and all the more when captors returned these runaways. In this sudden moment of realization, a truth actualized in my mind: we do the same thing...'
Wisdom doesn’t just rely on how much you know, but rather also counts on a person’s ability to navigate through situations that may involve such things as emotions and understanding circumstances.
When a person refuses to look at you, when they hide their face so that they are not seen, when they blatantly turn their backs to you… It struck me in that moment that this was exactly what God was doing to Moses.
"I’m a lot of things that the classic western church tries to avoid: an intellectual, science loving, environmentalist, postmodern art aficionado, democrat, feminist mystic with a smart mouth and a deep love of bourbon. Sometimes I feel excluded from the church conversation... The world likes what I’m about. Incidentally, so does Jesus. He has made that abundantly clear in the direction He points His favor."
Truth be told, I became comfortable with God. He was the guy who was watching over me. He was the friend I had. He was the awesome dude who gave me stuff and loved me, this I know. Now I’m not saying that these are inaccuracies. Each premise (and yes, each is a song that was in my childhood) has scripture to back it up. But, the truth is, that’s not enough. At some point along the way, as we grow in our walk with Jesus, we have to make the decision of what we are going to choose to believe about our God, even if the healing never comes
"In order to profess that Scripture itself is sufficient rule to faith and practice, the claim of sufficiency, in its very nature, must be rooted in infallibility and inerrancy."
"All God does is by Him. But what does that mean exactly? The initial chapters of Genesis expound on this doctrine. God created, designed, and intentioned the universe to respond to Him and His laws of creation."
"Down through the years the world of neuroscience has attempted on a number of occasions to prove free will to be an illusion. None of the attempts have been especially convincing and all have been met with skepticism even within the scientific community."
"It seems like it would be a sin to punish someone eternally for something that person couldn’t have avoided. I don’t like the idea of a God who sins, so I can’t be a Calvinist."
"Its been eight years into my journey with Jesus, and there are more questions, uncertainty, and doubt than I've ever had in my life. This whole thing could be a pile of shit, but if it helps me love people like Jesus did in the Gospels, I'm okay with that."
"The purpose of ChristianPig is to give a voice to people’s stories.... Well, it turns out that those of us at ChristianPig aren’t the only ones who care about such things."
"why do we fool ourselves into lame attempts at understanding the plan of God?... When we attempt to perceive “God’s plan,” we neglect God’s character, see ourselves out of context, and render God’s sovereignty nullified."
