"People need us to show them the love of Christ more than we need plastic baby Jesus in our front yards, or the word “Christmas” on our Starbucks cups. Jesus is the reason we love. He’s the reason we live. He’s not the reason we should be a Grinch."
There are nine months in there that we read nothing about in Scripture. Is this not, in many ways, the First Advent?
At some point on this journey we have to ask, “What’s my light at the end of the tunnel? What’s my hope that keeps me going?”
"When you practice self-love, you start to recognize your journey as your own and no one else’s. When you see your journey as your own, it becomes difficult and foreign to envy other’s."
"If I have learned anything about this deeply moving spiritual discipline, it is that does fasting work? is not the right question to begin with. Fasting is both difficult and difficult to understand. In my experience, it rarely ‘works’; by that I mean, it rarely causes anything big to happen right away and it usually causes something totally different than what I was expecting and hoping for."
