Wisdom doesn’t just rely on how much you know, but rather also counts on a person’s ability to navigate through situations that may involve such things as emotions and understanding circumstances.
There is only one truth, one way to the Father, and it is not virginity, it is not a six-day creation, and it is definitely not anti-immigration laws.
Our ability to be the most effective, the best versions of ourselves, is determined greatly by what we choose to be humbled by.
"I’m a lot of things that the classic western church tries to avoid: an intellectual, science loving, environmentalist, postmodern art aficionado, democrat, feminist mystic with a smart mouth and a deep love of bourbon. Sometimes I feel excluded from the church conversation... The world likes what I’m about. Incidentally, so does Jesus. He has made that abundantly clear in the direction He points His favor."
"If God did exist, He must have been a fool. Because here I was hijacking His religion, doing everything right, feeling right, but all of it without Him"
There are nine months in there that we read nothing about in Scripture. Is this not, in many ways, the First Advent?
"God has seen what I’ve done, and still takes me back. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that."
"When you practice self-love, you start to recognize your journey as your own and no one else’s. When you see your journey as your own, it becomes difficult and foreign to envy other’s."
I began feeding my need for attention and desire to be wanted with sex... I started seeing a guy two years older than me even after people had warned me about him. It was incredibly abusive, emotionally and sometimes physically.
"All God does is by Him. But what does that mean exactly? The initial chapters of Genesis expound on this doctrine. God created, designed, and intentioned the universe to respond to Him and His laws of creation."
"If I truly put my faith in the Creator of the Universe, then I should be open minded enough to listen to various points of view, knowing that God's truth will be revealed if I'm truly seeking it. Because of this philosophy, I can confidently listen to views that are the exact opposite of what I've been raised to believe, and have meaningful conversations with those who are presenting those views."
"John 3:16 is just as true for someone who is biologically male identifying as a woman as it is for the porn addict, the atheist, the child molester, the gossip, and the glutton. Jesus loves all and accepts all as is. On the other hand... Jesus loves His children too much to leave them as they are."
"Its been eight years into my journey with Jesus, and there are more questions, uncertainty, and doubt than I've ever had in my life. This whole thing could be a pile of shit, but if it helps me love people like Jesus did in the Gospels, I'm okay with that."
The purpose of writing this is to open you up a little more to the vastness of God’s grace; to the idea that when Jesus died on the cross, many sins were bared on His shoulders; that when Jesus cried “IT IS FINISHED”, He meant it. The point I’m trying to make is that the Grace of God is so offensive, that we should fall to our knees daily and thank Him for it.
I don’t have a conversion story. I don’t have a date that I remember thinking Jesus is real now. He was always real. As real as the color green. If He was ever not-real, my reality would shatter. Just like if you told me the color green wasn’t actually green.
'If Jesus could forgive the very people who nailed Him to a cross, can’t I also forgive myself and others who have “done me wrong?"'
